The Different Types of Jerry Cans

Today, I'm going to write about the types of jerry cans out there & which might be best for you.

There are mainly two styles & two materials that are used today. The two basic styles are the screw-type closure & NATO-type closure. The former has a threaded mouth on which a spout or cap screws onto, providing the seal. The latter is a "flip-top" closure with a lid & safety pin to keep it sealed. Typically, a spout is attached to the mouth for pouring. Some might say the only true jerry can is the NATO-type as that is the one invented by the Germans (or "Jerrys") in WW2.

As far as materials, there are metal & plastic. The latter is mostly made by Scepter & widely available. Quality metal or steel jerry cans are made by the 3 manufacturers: Valpro / Wavian, Gelg & Yates. Yates Jerry Cans are made in India with precision welding & 0.8mm thick steel. They are available for sale here with fast shipping.

Which one is right for you? It depends on what you're going for. If you want a a good can that's also lightweight, a plastic jerry can might be fine. But if you're looking for one that will withstand the toughest conditions like extreme weather, hurricanes, emergencies & last a lifetime without getting warped or damaged, you want to go with steel.
